Why can't I drag a file from a folder to the desktop using the "show desktop" shortcut?

Sometimes corrupted system files or corrupted component storage can also cause the drag-and-drop feature to not work. You can use SFC and DISM to fix these problems.

Thanks, tried both of those to no avail.  I cannot find anyone that has had this issue anywhere.  FYI it does not matter if it is a network folder or a local folder, the shortcuts work fine when opening them, then you can drag and drop to the folder, just not on top of the shortcut.  No error, its just like they are not there

i just started having a problem where i cannot drag and drop a file to a folder shortcut.  It does not matter if the shortcut is for a network share or just a local folder.  I can drag and drop to the folder but not a shortcut to it.  This happens on an other user profile on the machine (windows 10 pro)  anyone seen this and figured out a solution?  i would make this a new topic, but cannot figure out how on this forum

To successfully drag files to the desktop, restore the window after showing the desktop before releasing the mouse button.

Disable the display of desktop shortcuts by right-clicking on the taskbar → Taskbar Settings, or by dragging the object to an empty space on the desktop.
