How to fix the Disk Full message on a Mac and free up space
Step 1: Empty the Trash
- Right-click the Trash icon → Empty Trash
Step 2: Check the Downloads folder
- Open Finder → Downloads
- Sort by size
- Delete old .dmg files, ZIP files, and unnecessary files
Step 3: Clear the browser cache
Safari:
- Safari → Preferences → Advanced → Show Develop menu
- Develop → Empty Cache
Chrome:
- Chrome → Clear Browsing Data → Cached images and files
Step 4: Delete old iOS backups
- Apple menu → System Settings → General → Storage
- Scroll to iOS Files and tap the Info icon
- Delete expired iPhone and iPad backups, keeping only the most recent one
- Each old backup may take up 10–30 GB of storage space
