What is this? Your favorites will appear here

Opening the fie explorer to this visual monstrosity throws me off every time. How a commercial operating system with so many designers could keep this in the OS is unfathomable to me.

In Windows 10 and Windows 11, "Favorites" used to be a part of the Quick Access area in File Explorer, where you could pin frequently used folders for easy access. Over time, Microsoft has evolved these features, and in some versions, favorites might appear as shortcuts, pinned folders, or even in the sidebar.

Honestly, it’s a bit baffling. You’d think with all the talented designers and UX folks working on these systems, they’d spice up the default file explorer or at least make it more customizable. Instead, it feels like an afterthought or just a necessary evil. It throws you off because it’s so plain and uninspired, especially when you’re used to sleeker, more modern interfaces or custom file managers.
