What is the best AI tool for restoring old photos?

Hi everyone,

I just digitalized hundreds of old photos and some of them didn't look good. I heard these blurred images can be repaired or enhanced with AI tools. I want to digitally restore a collection of old, damaged family photographs. Many have cracks, spots, and faded areas. I’ve heard AI tools can automate a lot of the repair work, but I’m unsure what is the best AI photo restorer tool for restoring old photos? I'd love to hear about your personal experiences. What has worked well for you in terms of ease of use, quality of results, and handling of complex damage?

Free options are a plus, but I’m also open to paid services if they are truly superior. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Waifu2x is a popular free AI-based image upscaling and noise reduction tool, especially favored for restoring and enhancing images, including anime-style artwork and photos. It's widely used for improving image quality without sacrificing detail, making it a good choice if you're looking for a best AI photo restorer for your Windows computer.

How to use Waifu2x as AI photo restorer on Windows:

There are several ways to run Waifu2x on Windows:

    1. Waifu2x Web-based Services

Many online platforms offer free Waifu2x-based upscaling without installing anything.

       Example: waifu2x.udp.jp

Upload your image, select settings, and download the enhanced image.

    2. Desktop Applications

Several Windows-compatible tools bundle Waifu2x algorithms:

Waifu2x-Qt (a GUI application for Windows)

waifu2x-caffe (more advanced, requiring some setup)

       waifu2x-converter (command-line or GUI options)

    3. Using Waifu2x via GPU/CLI

For more control and better performance, you can use command-line versions with GPU support, but this requires technical setup.
