Unable to Sign into Account on PC

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this issue? Whenever I try to download an app from the Microsoft Store on desktop, I am prompted to sign in to my account using Windows Hello (there does not seem to be a way around this method of sign-in). After typing in my PIN, I always receive the following error:

This error occurs anytime I need to sign into my Microsoft account within other apps, like Xbox. I have not encountered this problem signing into my account on my browser, however. I have tried disabling Windows Hello in settings but I am unable to remove the PIN. I've also tried googling how to fix the issue and could not find a solution that has worked so far.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Wait for the command to run; the Store will open automatically after reset.

  • The screenshot shows Windows added your Microsoft account, but Windows Hello registration failed when Store or Xbox tried to verify it. Because browser sign-in works, this points to the device’s Hello/PIN registration rather than the account password. First restart Windows, install pending updates, then sign out and back in. Open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello) and choose I forgot my PIN; verify the Microsoft account and create a new PIN. You do not need to remove the existing PIN first. Next sign out of Microsoft Store and Xbox, press Windows+R, run wsreset.exe, reopen Store, and choose Library > Get updates. Sign in again and test a free app. If Hello setup still reports “Something went wrong,” record the exact error code and Windows build. Microsoft’s guidance for unlisted PIN-creation errors is to contact Support, because the remaining cause may require device-registration diagnostics.
