Unable to install latest update

Hello, I am unable to install 2026-07 Update (KB5121767) (26200.8894) on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop. On another device everything went fine. Several times the download slowly reaches somewhere and then the cumulative update is not installed. A button appears to repeat the procedure. I have applied procedures to clear the cache for the updates. Can you give an advisory opinion.

Please accept my gratitude expressed with a sense of pleasant duty!

  • You’re trying to install KB5121767 on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1, but Windows Update repeatedly downloads it and returns to Retry, while another device installed it. Microsoft identifies KB5121767 as an optional out-of-band update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, recommended only for a limited set of devices affected by an Intel Innovation Platform Framework issue; unaffected devices need no action. Open Settings, Windows Update, Update history and record the failure code. If the ThinkPad has no matching Intel IPF problem, leave this optional update uninstalled and wait for the next cumulative update. If Windows still offers it, restart, disconnect nonessential peripherals, confirm adequate free space, and run the Windows Update troubleshooter. Then run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth followed by sfc /scannow, and retry once. If it still fails, follow Microsoft’s catalog installation instructions or provide the exact error code and current Windows edition/build for targeted diagnosis.

I have also had problems with this update. I too have a Lenovo ThinkPad X1. This update (KB5121767) is not optional on my system. I have let it install 3 times and had to reset my Windows each time. Finally this last time, I was able to uninstall the update and things are looking good. After installation of the update, my DNS Client process ran very hot each time and all sorts of activity was blocked (accessing the web, running programs, etc.). I was unable to run the Update Troubleshooter. I ran malware/virus scans and they all came back completely clean. I also ran DISM .../Scanhealth and it came back clean as did SFC /scannow. I am now running DISM .../RestoreHealth to make sure I have a clean system.
