The HP laptop gets hot, fans run loud

My HP laptop running Windows 11 overheats severely during basic tasks, with the fans constantly spinning at maximum speed and producing excessive noise. The chassis becomes uncomfortably hot to touch even when idle, and I have already tried updating drivers and adjusting power settings without any improvement.

This update has been known to reset power settings and install generic drivers that aren't optimized for HP hardware, leading to increased temperatures and fan noise .

  • Hey — for an HP laptop I’d run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics first, including the fan and battery tests. Also install the BIOS, chipset, and thermal-framework updates for the exact product number from HP Support Assistant or HP’s support site.

For a quick comparison, set Windows to Balanced power mode and check Task Manager for high CPU, GPU, or disk use. Keep the laptop on a hard surface and make sure both intake and exhaust vents are clear. If it still gets uncomfortably hot while idle, or the fan test reports an error, that is not something a Windows tweak should be expected to fix—dust buildup, dried thermal compound, a weak fan, or a battery problem may need service.

Please share the exact HP model, idle/load temperatures, and whether the heat is near the exhaust, battery, or charging port.
