The Windows Photos app is actually a surprisingly capable video editor for PC that comes completely free with Windows 10 and Windows 11. Many people don't realize this because the app is primarily known for viewing photos, but it includes a full-featured video editing suite.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Photos App as a Video Editor

Step 1: Open the Photos App

  • Click the Start menu and type "Photos"
  • Open the Photos app (it has a multicolored flower/leaf icon)

Step 2: Start a New Video Project

  • Click the "Video Editor" tab at the top
  • Give your project a name

Step 3: Add Your Videos

  • Click "Add" and select "From this PC"
  • Browse and select your video files
  • Drag the clips to the storyboard at the bottom of the screen

Step 4: Edit Your Video

To Trim a Clip:

  • Click on the clip in the storyboard
  • Select the "Trim" button (scissors icon)
  • Drag the handles to adjust the start and end points
  • Click "Done"

Step 5: Export Your Video

  • Click the "Finish video" button in the top-right corner
  • Choose your export quality (1080p, 720p, or lower)
  • Select the destination folder

The Photos app is an excellent starting point if you need a video editor for PC that is completely free, already installed, and easy to learn.
