The best heic to jpg converter I can use on Windows 11 PC?

Honestly, I'm completely new to this and need some help. I have a bunch of HEIC photos (I think they're from an iPhone) that I need to convert to JPG so I can use them on my Windows 11 PC. Right now, when I try to open them, nothing works properly.

Can someone recommend the best heic to jpg converter for Windows 11? I'm looking for something that's:

  • Safe and fast
  • Easy to use (I'm not very technical, so simple is better)
  • Can convert multiple photos at once (batch conversion), because I have a lot of them
  •

A few questions I have:

  • Do I even need to download anything, or does Windows 11 have a built-in way to do this?
  • If I do need a program, which one would you recommend for a beginner like me?
  • Does converting affect the photo quality at all?

Thanks for the  help!

    Changing the camera settings on an iPhone means you don't need to use any conversion tools at all. This can be said to make this method the best HEIC to JPG converter for Windows 11 - because it completely eliminates the need for conversion.

    When you take photos with an iPhone, it will save the photos in one of two formats:

    • Efficient format (HEIC): This format can save storage space on the iPhone, but it cannot be directly read on the Windows 11 system.
    • The most compatible format (JPG): This format occupies more storage space on the iPhone, but it can be used immediately on any Windows computer.

    After switching to the "Most Compatible" mode, from that moment on, every photo you take will be saved in the standard JPG format. When you transfer these photos to your Windows 11 computer, they will immediately open in File Explorer, the Photos app, or any other program - without the best HEIC to JPG converter for Windows 11.

    Step-by-step instructions

    Here is how to change your iPhone settings:

    1. Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone
    2. Scroll down and click on "Camera"
    3. At the top of the camera settings page, click on "Format"
    4. Under the "Camera Shooting" option, select "Most Compatible" instead of "High Efficiency"

    That's all you need to do. For all new uploaded photos, this change takes effect immediately.

    Xn Convert is an excellent solution because it is a hidden powerhouse often overlooked by casual users. It fully supports HEIC files and allows you to convert entire folders at once, making it one of the best HEIC to JPG converter options available for free. Unlike a simple online tool, Xn Convert is a dedicated software that runs entirely on your computer. To understand it, you just need to know its two main working areas:

    1. The Input Tab: This is where you add the HEIC images or folders you want to convert. You can simply drag and drop them into the window .

    2. The Actions Tab : This is the unique part that makes it so powerful. You don't just click "convert." You build a small list of instructions. For a basic HEIC to JPG conversion, you only need one action: "Convert" .

    • Click "Add Action" -> "Image" -> "Convert" .
    • In the settings for this action, change the format to "JPEG" .

    Why This is One of the Best HEIC to JPG Converters for You

    • Xn Convert is a freeware application. Your photos are processed on your own computer, not uploaded to a stranger's server. This keeps your personal images private and secure. It is free for personal and educational use.
    • This is the "bulk delete" for conversion. You can drop 500 different HEIC photos into Xn Convert, set the action once, and it will process every single one automatically. Some users have reported converting thousands of files in just a few minutes.
    • You can tell Xn Convert to keep the original photo date, camera info, or you can choose to "Strip EXIF" for safety. This is a rare feature in free tools.

    Aconvert is a web-based processing platform that serves as a software-free heic to jpg converter for windows 11. It allows users to upload Apple’s high-efficiency image files directly through a browser and perform the conversion on remote servers, which is ideal for those who prefer not to install additional local applications.

    To use this service, navigate to the site's image conversion section, click "Choose Files" to upload your HEIC photos from your local drive, ensure the target format is set to JPG, and then click "Convert Now" to process and download the resulting files once they are ready.

    The primary benefit of this heic to jpg converter for windows 11 is its accessibility and convenience, as it supports multiple file uploads and requires no technical configuration or system-specific installation to function across different devices.

    However, since the conversion process takes place in the cloud, the user experience depends on their upload speed, and transferring personal photos to third-party servers may raise privacy concerns.

    In summary, for Windows 11 users who occasionally need to work with HEIC files, this tool offers a quick and temporary solution. It is best suited for small tasks where speed and convenience are prioritized over bulk processing or strict data privacy.

    Using your email service is a clever, software-free heic to jpg converter workaround for users who need to move a few photos from an iPhone to a computer without any technical setup.

    To execute this, simply open the HEIC photo on your iPhone, tap the Share icon to send it to your own email address via the Mail app, and then log in on your PC to download the attachment, which is automatically converted to a JPEG during the sending process.

    Key Limitations and Precautions:

    • This method is only suitable for single transfers; sending a large number of photos would require dozens of emails, which would be extremely time-consuming.
    • Most email providers impose a 25MB limit on attachment sizes, which may prevent you from sending multiple high-resolution photos in a single email.
    • During transmission, your phone or email client may apply heavy compression to save data, which can reduce the clarity and detail of the original images.

    Ultimately, while utilizing your email as a heic to jpg converter is a handy trick for quick, emergency transfers, it remains a temporary solution rather than a professional workflow. For anyone needing to preserve maximum detail or manage an entire gallery, exploring dedicated system tools or batch software will always provide a more robust and reliable result.

    If you have ever transferred photos from an iPhone to a computer, you have likely encountered the HEIC format. While great for saving space, it often causes compatibility issues. Many users immediately search for a third-party heic to jpg converter, but if you own a Mac, you already have a powerful tool built right into your system: Preview.

    Using macOS's native tools is faster, safer for your privacy, and ensures you maintain the highest image quality without downloading suspicious applications.

    Step 1: Converting a Single File

    Open: Double-click the HEIC file to open it in Preview.

    Export: Click the top menu and select File → Export.

    Format: Select JPEG from the Format drop-down menu.

    Quality: Drag the quality slider to 100% for best results.

    Save: Select a save location, then click Save.

    Step 2: Batch Conversion

    Select All: Select all HEIC files you want to convert in the folder.

    Open with Preview: Right-click and select Open With… → Preview.

    Select Thumbnails: Once Preview is open, click inside the left sidebar and press Command + A to select all thumbnails.

    Batch Export: Go to File → Export Selected Images...

    Options: Click the Options button at the bottom of the dialog box, set the format to JPEG, and set the quality to Highest.

    Select: Choose a destination folder and click Select to process all images at once.

    By mastering these built-in macOS shortcuts, you effectively turn your computer into a high-speed heic to jpg converter without spending a dime or risking your data on third-party websites. Whether you are dealing with one photo or one thousand, the Preview app handles the task with professional precision and ease.

It operates on a non-destructive processing engine, meaning your original high-efficiency files remain untouched while you generate new versions in more compatible formats.

    Step 1: Open the software and navigate to your photo directory using the Browse tab.

    Step 2: Select the HEIC images you want to process; you can choose individual files or use Ctrl+A to select the entire folder.

    Step 3: Click the Convert button to open the export dialog box, then select JPEG from the File Type menu.

    Step 4: For multiple files, apply the conversion template you want and click Convert; the software will process the tasks in the queue in the background.

    It provides a secure, offline environment for managing image formats. For users who need a tool capable of both format conversion and advanced image editing, it is a powerful choice.

    ps:

    • Unlike lightweight heic to jpg converter for windows 11, this software is a full-featured editing suite that may require more system memory when processing high-resolution batch files.
    • The software’s interface is designed specifically for photographers, so new users may need a few minutes to locate the batch processing tools compared to single-purpose utilities.

    If you already installed the HEIF Image Extensions on Windows 11, you can use PowerShell together with .NET/Windows imaging support to convert HEIC to JPG.

    Here is a simple PowerShell example for converting one HEIC file to JPG on Windows:

    Add-Type -AssemblyName System.Drawing
    $heic = "C:\Photos\image.heic"
    $jpg = "C:\Photos\image.jpg"
    $image = [System.Drawing.Image]::FromFile($heic)
    $image.Save($jpg, [System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat]::Jpeg)
    $image.Dispose()

    To batch convert all HEIC files in a folder:

    Add-Type -AssemblyName System.Drawing
    Get-ChildItem "C:\Photos\*.heic" | ForEach-Object {
        $jpgPath = Join-Path $_.DirectoryName ($_.BaseName + ".jpg")
        $image = [System.Drawing.Image]::FromFile($_.FullName)
        $image.Save($jpgPath, [System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat]::Jpeg)
        $image.Dispose()
    }

    What this does:

    • Reads all .heic files in the folder
    • Converts them to .jpg
    • Saves the JPG files in the same directory
    •

    If PowerShell cannot open the HEIC file directly, install both:

    • HEIF Image Extensions
    • HEVC Video Extensions

    These HEIC to JPG Converter codecs allow Windows 11 to properly decode many HEIC photos from iPhone devices.

    Most people search for the best HEIC to JPG converter for Windows 11 after they have already taken hundreds of photos on their iPhone. They then spend hours trying to convert those images. You are thinking ahead—prevention rather than cure.

    When you change your iPhone's camera settings to "Most Compatible," your iPhone saves photos as JPG instead of HEIC from the moment you take them. This means every photo you transfer to your Windows 11 PC is already in a format Windows understands natively. You never need a converter at all.

    How to Change the Setting on Your iPhone without best HEIC to JPG converter for Windows 11:

    Here are the exact steps:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone

    2. Scroll down and tap Camera

    3. Tap Formats

    4. Under "Camera Capture," select Most Compatible instead of "High Efficiency"

    That is all you need to do. From this point forward, every new photo you take will be saved as a JPG file.
