Taskbar doesn't auto-appear when on application windows

Ever since I installed Windows 11 the auto-hide feature of the taskbar hasn't been working.

When the mouse pointer is at the bottom on the desktop, the taskbar appears. But it doesn't show when on an app, maximised or not. The only way for me to get it is to either disable auto-hide or keep on pressing the windows button to make the start + taskbar appear.

I want to keep the auto-hide feature because it creates more screenspace. What can I do?
