Notepad Bug: Monospace is not monospaced

December of 2025 and this is still a thing.  Anyone know if MS is working on this?

    I'll launch both of you even better: It's now February 2026, and this is still a thing!  I agree MS is not motivated to fix this.  No $$ to allocate to such a mundane issue, unless they thought revenue and/or a free data source might be at risk.

     

    Here's a list of Notepad alternatives that understand what a monospace fonts is -- and as a bonus, don't send any data to Bing!

    Notepad++
    Sublime
    UltraEdit
    LopeEdit
    TextPad
    Vim/Emacs, etc. :)

    I'll throw you one better: It's now January 2026 and this is still a thing.  I very seriously doubt MS is working on it.  It took them over a decade to fix the UI to set an environment variable via the GUI.  Notepad is on the bottom of their priorities for sure.
