No system sound

I can't figure out why, for some reason, I'm not getting any system sounds. I discovered it yesterday when I had a timer set in the Windows Clock app and when it ran down, there was no sound. The weird thing is, if I play music or video files, the sound works. When I go into Sound Properties and test the speakers, I get sound. When I open Sound in Control Panel and test the various sounds, I get sound.

Go to Settings > System > Sound > Advanced sound options > App volume and device preferences. Make sure "System Sounds" (or "Windows Notifications" and related apps) aren’t muted or set to a very low volume.

Sometimes, the default device might be set to a different output (like headphones or HDMI audio). In Sound Control Panel > Playback, confirm your main speakers are set as Default Device. You can also try changing the default device to see if that resolves the issue.

Some audio enhancement software or third-party apps can block or override system sounds.
