Need help: My iPhone stuck on install now screen during software update
Sorry to bother here but I need some help to fix this weird issue with my Windows 11 PC.
My iPhone got stuck on the Install Now screen while updating to iOS 26 and it won't move past that screen no matter how long I wait. I already tried restarting the phone, but it still goes back to the same update screen.
I am wondering if there is a way to fix iPhone stuck on install now screen with my Windows 11 computer. It could be best not to lose my photos, messages, and other important data if possible. The device is an iPhone 15 and it had enough battery during the update. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any simple suggestions or recovery methods would really help.

This is a common issue during iOS update and a new device setup. You can fix this issue by restoring the iOS firmware from here:

When dealing with an iPhone stuck on install now screen, leave the phone connected to power and Wi-Fi. If it has been more than 30-45 minutes with zero movement, then consider intervention—but never disconnect impulsively .

The search results mention one scenario where doing nothing is an option: if the problem is caused by a buggy beta version of iOS . In that specific situation, you could simply wait for Apple to release a patch, which would automatically download and install. However, this is not an active "fix"—it is passive waiting, and it assumes the phone is still able to communicate with Apple's servers in its frozen state.
When your iPhone stuck on install now screen, the operating system is no longer responding to touch input. The phone cannot be controlled through its screen or buttons in the normal way. This means:
- You cannot access Settings to check storage, delete the update file, or reset network settings
- You cannot restart normally because the screen is unresponsive
- The only way to interrupt a frozen software state is through a hardware-level intervention (Force Restart) or by connecting to a computer
Without using a Force Restart or connecting to iTunes/Finder, the phone has no way to exit the frozen state on its own.
How to fix the error like iPhone stuck on install now screen? Apple's official support can diagnose and fix the issue for free if your device is under warranty or if this is a known software issue. They will use their internal tools (which work similarly to iTunes), but you do not have to perform the steps yourself.

Your iPhone stuck on install now screen, the search results from multiple sources list several free troubleshooting steps:
- Charge your iPhone (keep it plugged in)
- Check your Wi-Fi connection (stable network required)
- Check storage space (need at least 5-10 GB free)
- Delete and re-download the update (go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Delete Update)
- Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings)
If the phone is completely frozen and won't respond to touch, you cannot access Settings at all. In that case, none of these work without a force restart first.
Some search results mention that if this is a beta version bug (iOS 26 Beta), you could simply wait for Apple to release a patch, which would automatically download and install. This requires:
- Keeping your phone connected to Wi-Fi
- Keeping it charged
- Doing nothing actively
This is truly free and requires no tools. However, it is not a guaranteed fix if iPhone stuck on install now screen — the problem might persist, and there is no timeframe for when Apple will release a fix.

You can use idevicerestore to attempt a fix when you have an iPhone stuck on install now screen. idevicerestore is a command-line application that communicates directly with Apple's servers to download and restore official iOS firmware to your iPhone . It was developed as part of the libimobiledevice project and has been maintained since 2010 .
If you have an iPhone stuck on install now screen, idevicerestore offers no advantage over using iTunes or Finder on a Mac or PC . Both methods:
1. Require you to put the phone into Recovery Mode using button sequences
2. Download and restore official signed firmware from Apple
3. Can update (preserve data) or erase (factory reset)
The only real difference is that idevicerestore runs on Linux. If you do not have access to a Mac or Windows PC, and you are comfortable with the command line, this is a valid free option. But it will not magically fix the problem without a restore operation.

Force Restart is a quick, non-destructive way to fix minor glitches when your iphone stuck on install now screen with iOS 18. It works differently from a normal restart and won’t erase any of your data.
Instructions: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side button. Keep holding until you see the Apple logo (about 10–15 seconds), then release the button. If the phone restarts normally, you’re done.
Its advantages include requiring no extra tools or software, working quickly to resolve many common update-related freezes, and keeping all your personal data intact.
Its drawbacks include only being effective for temporary system glitches, not solving underlying update errors or corrupted iOS files, and needing precise timing for the button sequence to work correctly.
Note
- This is different from a normal restart; it won’t erase any data on your iPhone. It simply refreshes the system to resolve temporary glitches.
- Be sure to quickly press the Volume Up button, then the Volume Down button, and then hold down the Side button.
- Never hold down the volume buttons while holding the Side button, as this may trigger other modes.
- Even if the screen goes black, continue holding the Side button for 10–15 seconds. Release it only when you see the Apple logo appear.
This allows you to quickly resolve the problem when your iphone stuck on install now screen with iOS 18. It is suitable for users who want a simple, no-data-loss first step to troubleshoot the issue.

If your iphone stuck on install now screen, DFU Mode is the deepest-level restore solution, though it may erase all your data, and you can restore from a backup afterward.
It allows you to fully reset the iPhone and reinstall iOS, but using this feature will wipe all data on the device.
First, if possible, back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer to protect your data.
Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable. Press the Volume Up button (and release it quickly), press the Volume Down button (and release it quickly), then hold down the Side button for 10 seconds. Continue holding the Side button while pressing and holding the Volume Down button for 5 seconds. Release the Side button, but continue holding the Volume Down button for 10 seconds.
The screen will remain black, indicating that the device has entered DFU mode. Open iTunes or Finder on your computer. A prompt will appear asking if you want to restore the iPhone. Click Restore to reinstall iOS.
Once the restore process is complete, you can set up the iPhone as new or restore from your backup.
This method cannot be used to fix your iPhone without erasing data, so it is only suitable when all other solutions for your iphone stuck on install now screen have failed and you have a backup ready.
If you don’t want to use third-party tools, you can try this method. This is a drastic measure, so you should think it through carefully before proceeding.

iphone stuck on install now screen with iOS 18, and standard update methods don't work, you can try using Recovery Mode to fix the issue. However, you must select ‘Update’ instead of “Restore,” otherwise your data will be lost.
How to Fix an iPhone Stuck on Install Now Screen with iOS 18
- Connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac using a USB cable.
- Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
- Hold down the Side button until you see the Recovery Mode screen.
- Finder will display a message: “Your iPhone has a problem and needs to be updated or restored.”
- This will reinstall iOS without deleting your data.
- iOS will then download and install, and your phone will restart.
- Check that your data is intact. Once the startup is complete, please verify that all your personal data has been preserved.
ps
- When prompted, be sure to select Restore, as this will erase all data on your iPhone. The Update option will simply reinstall iOS to resolve the issue without deleting your files.
- Downloading and installing iOS may take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your internet speed. Please be patient and do not force restart your phone during the process.
- Make sure your iPhone has at least 5GB of available storage to ensure the iOS update installs properly, as insufficient storage may cause the process to stall again.
This is a safe way to solve the problem. Be sure to read the precautions I’ve given you—they’ll be very helpful—and make sure your data stays secure. How do I know this? I’ve been there and done that.
