Looking for a simple way to add images to an existing PDF
To insert an image into an existing PDF on Windows or Mac, use an editor such as PDFgear to place, resize, and save the picture on the required page. Microsoft Edge has no general image-insertion tool, and Mac Preview has no straightforward Add Image command, so a dedicated PDF editor provides a more direct workflow.
Add images online for free with PDFgear
PDFgear lets you insert a picture into a PDF online for free in a Windows or Mac browser, without creating an account or installing software. It processes this editing task locally in your browser and exports without a watermark.
- Open PDFgear’s online PDF editor and click Select PDF File: https://www.pdfgear.com/online-tools/
- Navigate to the page where you want the image.
- Select Add Image and choose your JPG or PNG.
- Drag the picture into position and use the corner handles to resize it.
- Click Download PDF to save the edited document.
For a larger document or a workflow that does not depend on loading a website, use the desktop method below.
Add images with Adobe Acrobat online
If you already use an Adobe account with PDF editing access, Acrobat on the web is another option. Image insertion belongs to its paid editing features; the free annotation tools do not provide the same functionality.
- Sign in to Acrobat online and select Edit > Edit text & images.
- Choose Select a file and upload your PDF.
- Select Add image and choose the picture from your computer.
- Position and resize the image on the intended page.
- Let the changes save, then download the updated PDF.
This workflow uses Adobe cloud storage. If you prefer to keep the document in a local application, use the desktop options.
Insert pictures offline with PDFgear Desktop
PDFgear’s free desktop editor lets you add an image to a PDF on Mac or Windows without an account. Once installed, its image-insertion tool works without an internet connection. You can place, resize, and position the picture locally without uploading the PDF.
- Open the existing PDF in PDFgear.
- Open the Edit tools and select Add Image.
- Choose the image file and place it on the required page.
- Adjust its position and size.
- Save the edited PDF under a new name.
Adding an image generally places it over the page rather than making surrounding paragraphs move automatically. Choose an empty area or resize the picture so it does not cover existing content.
Use Acrobat Pro for additional image controls
If you already have a paid Acrobat Pro subscription and need controls such as cropping, alignment, or arranging overlapping objects, its desktop editor is also suitable.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro on Windows or Mac.
- Select Edit, then Add Image.
- Choose your image and click Open.
- Click to place it, then resize or reposition it using the image controls.
- Save a separate copy of the PDF.
Before sharing, reopen the saved copy and inspect the image at its intended viewing or printing size. An online editor is convenient for occasional additions without installing software. A desktop editor is useful for repeated edits and offline work.
