Look for a good video cropper I can use on Windows 11

Is there any good option out there for cropping a video on Windows 11? I only want to use part of a long video about two minutes. I tried to do that with the built-in Media Player, but the feature is not available.

Could someone help suggest a good video cropper software for Windows 11?

You might be looking for trimming rather than cropping.

    • Trimming removes unwanted time from the beginning or end of a video (for example, keeping only a 2-minute section).
    • Cropping removes part of the picture (for example, cutting off the left or right side of the frame).

If you only want to keep about two minutes from a longer video, you need a video editor rather than a dedicated cropper.

For Windows 11, here are a few beginner-friendly options:

    • Microsoft Clipchamp is probably the easiest place to start. It’s available on Windows 11 and lets you trim, split, crop, and export videos through a simple timeline.
    • Adobe Premiere Pro offers precise trimming and cropping tools along with many advanced editing features, but it’s better suited to users who edit videos regularly and don’t mind a subscription.

If you actually need to crop the picture (rather than shorten the duration), most video editors have a Crop or Transform tool where you can adjust the frame and preview the result before exporting.

For occasional edits on a standard Windows 11 PC, a lightweight editor such as Clipchamp is usually sufficient. If you expect to do more advanced editing in the future, it may be worth learning a more feature-rich editor like Adobe Premiere Pro.

The Custom Python Approach if you are finding a best video cropper: This is the most complex method, requiring you to write your own scripts and manage dependencies. It involves leveraging Python libraries that handle video processing under the hood.

    The Tech Stack:

At its core, this approach uses Python to orchestrate video manipulation:

    1. Python: The programming language used to write your custom script or application.
    2. Open CV or MoviePy: These are Python libraries that provide the functions to read, manipulate, and write video files. They act as a high-level interface for complex video operations like cropping.
    3. Building an Executable : For a more complex challenge, you can bundle your Python script into a standalone .exe file using PyInstall er. This allows you to create a portable tool that others can use without installing Python.

How to Build Your video Cropper for Windows 11:

    1. Set Up Your Environment: Before using the best video cropper. First, you'll need to install Python on your system. Then, you can install the necessary libraries using pip, Python's package manager. For example, you would use commands like pip install open cv-python or pip install moviepy in your command prompt.

    2. Write Your Cropping Script: You will create a Python script (e.g., crop_video.py) that imports the libraries and defines your video cropping logic. A simple script might look like this:

    python

    # Example using moviepy (conceptual)

    from moviepy.editor import VideoFileClip

    # Load the video

    clip = VideoFileClip("my_video.mp4")

    # Define the crop region: (x1, y1, x2, y2)

    cropped_clip = clip.crop(x1=100, y1=200, x2=500, y2=600)

    # Save the new video

    cropped_clip.write_videofile("cropped_output.mp4")

    • Programming Required: This isn't a point-and-click solution. You'll be writing code, troubleshooting syntax errors, and learning the basics of programming logic.
    • Library Dependencies: You must manage the installation of Python libraries and ensure they are compatible with your system. For some libraries, the installation can be more involved.
    • Understanding Video Processing: To crop effectively, you need to understand concepts like pixel coordinates, aspect ratios, and output encoding settings to get the result you want.

Those who need simple and fast local video trimming on desktop devices and want a practical tool serving as video cropper for windows 11 can use LosslessCut. It is a streamlined lossless video editing utility with built-in lossless file copy technology. It is not a full-featured nonlinear editing suite, but a portable trimming-focused program that runs smoothly on Windows 11 laptops and completes quick video segmentation within seconds, and this fully free tool requires no complicated installation configuration.

How to Perform Lossless Video Cropping and Trimming

    1. Download the Windows portable compressed package from the official release page.
    2. Extract the archive and launch the main executable file to open the main operation interface.
    3. Drag and drop the target video file directly into the program window to load the media source.
    4. Drag the timeline slider and press keyboard I/O keys to mark the start and end points of the reserved clips.
    5. Check the segment list on the right sidebar to confirm all selected cropped ranges are correct.
    6. Click the Export button at the bottom right to output the trimmed video in lossless copy mode.

It adopts direct file copy technology without re-encoding the entire video, which drastically cuts down waiting time for export tasks. For short recording clips, the whole cropping process only takes several seconds to finish. When sorting out a batch of screen recordings or daily video materials, many ordinary users choose mature and stable software acting as video cropper for windows 11 for daily video trimming work.

    Cons:

    • Lacks advanced functions like color grading, transition effects and multi-layer composite editing
    • Frame-precise cutting is limited by video keyframes, ultra-fine trimming needs partial re-encoding manually

This version is designed to automatically turn long videos into short, vertical clips for platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. It is explicitly built for Windows (along with macOS and Linux) and is the closest to a specialized video cropper for Windows 11.

Core Functionality: It analyzes your video to find the most engaging moments using AI, then automatically crops the footage to a vertical 9:16 format for social media. It can also add animated captions and even auto-zoom or reframe to keep the speaker centered.

    Key Benefits:

    • Automation: Saves significant time by handling the entire clip extraction and cropping process.
    • AI-Driven Cropping: Uses face and speaker detection to intelligently crop the video, ensuring the main subject stays in the frame.
    • Runs Locally: Some versions process videos on your own computer, keeping your footage private and avoiding upload fees.
    • Free/Open-Source: Many versions are free and open-source, though they may require an OpenAI API key for some AI features.

There is another version of ClipForge that is a general-purpose, feature-rich video processing desktop app. While it does include a cropping function, it is not an AI-driven "cropper" but rather a manual editing tool.

    • Cropping Capabilities: This tool allows you to manually crop videos as part of a larger suite of editing features. It is less specialized than the AI version if your primary need is automated vertical cropping for social media.

    How to Choose

    • Choose ClipForge if: Your primary goal is to efficiently create vertical, short-form clips for social media from long videos (e.g., podcasts, streams, tutorials). Its AI-powered cropping and clip selection will save you the most time.
    • Consider other tools if: You need precise, manual control over the crop area for a single video, or you prefer a simple, built-in tool without any setup.

the AI-powered ClipForge is a highly capable and specialized video cropper for Windows 11 that stands out for its automation.

The search results confirm that XinChao- Cut is an open-source video editor that allows you to crop clips. You can find the cropping functionality in a couple of different places within the software:

    • In the Properties Panel: Once you have a clip on the timeline, you can select it and open the Properties panel, where you'll find options to adjust its transform, crop, speed, and opacity .
    • Through Context Menus and Shortcuts: You can also crop a clip by right-clicking on it and selecting "Crop & Rotate" from the context menu, or by using the keyboard shortcut C.

In addition to cropping, the editor includes standard features like splitting clips, trimming their edges, and applying effects and filters.

When considering whether XinChao- Cut is the best video cropper for your needs, here are a few points to weigh:

    • When XinChao- Cut Shines: If you are looking for a single, free, open-source application that can handle not just cropping but also more complex video editing tasks, then XinChao- Cut is a strong and versatile contender . For many users, a feature-rich editor like this will serve as the best video cropper because it provides a complete editing suite.
    • When to Consider Simpler Tools: If your sole goal is to crop a single video clip quickly and without any extra features, a larger editor like XinChao- Cut might feel more complex than necessary. In that case, a simple, dedicated cropping utility might feel like the best video cropper for that specific job. As discussed in our previous conversation, options like building a custom script could provide a different kind of challenge and control.

XinChao- Cut includes solid cropping capabilities, and its open-source nature fits your preference for avoiding paid tools. It may be the best video cropper for you if you want an all-in-one, free editor with the depth to handle various editing tasks. If you require only the simplest cropping function, its full feature set might be more than you need.

VidPare appears to be an excellent free video trimming tool, but there is a catch for your specific need to crop a video on Windows 11. The Windows version of VidPare is a straightforward tool designed to be an intuitive, open-source way to trim videos, which means cutting from the beginning or end of a clip, not cropping the visible frame area.

Here is what the search results reveal about VidPare:

    1. Functionality: The app is built specifically for setting in and out points on an interactive timeline to export a segment of a video. While it is described as a "video cropper" by some sources, the technical term for this action is "trimming." There is no mention of a feature to adjust the visible frame's border, which is what "cropping" typically means.

    2. Platforms: The main project page describes VidPare as a native macOS video trimmer. A separate Windows implementation exists, which is the one you're asking about.

    3. Availability and Requirements: This video cropper for Windows 11 is an open-source project on GitHub. To use it, your system will need to meet its requirements:

    • Windows 11 (build 22000+)
    • An x64 machine
    • .NET 8 Desktop Runtime installed
    • If building from source, Visual Studio 2022 is required

    4. Features: The app offers a modern, native interface with drag-and-drop functionality, an interactive timeline with draggable trim handles, playback controls, and export to H.264 or HE VC at multiple quality presets.

If your task is to trim a segment out of a longer video, then VidPare is a perfect and completely free choice for a video cropper for Windows 11.
