Look for a good spotify song downloader working on PC or Mac?
I look for a reliable method for downloading songs easily from Spotify to my PC or Mac. I wish to save tracks in a standard format like MP3 for personal offline use. I know many tools exist online, but I need one that is safe, effective, and easy to use.
Please share your trusted recommendations of spotify song downloader. I prefer software that works well on both Windows and macOS. Any advice on audio quality and safety is welcome.
Thank you for your help.

As far as I know, many free spotify song downloader software are not working now. The app should update frequently as Spotify updates its algorithm.
Here is the one that still works at least on my Windows 11 laptop as I just used it yesterday:

I think Sp0tDL has done an excellent job if you are finding a best Spotify song downloader. sp0tDL is a command-line tool designed to help you download music from Spotify by matching tracks with available YouTube videos or other sources. It automates the process of finding and downloading songs based on Spotify links or song names.
How to use sp0tDL:
1. Install Python if you haven't already.
2. Install sp0tDL via pip:
pip install sp0tdl
3. Download a song or playlist:
sp0tdl <Spotify URL or song name>
Example:
sp0tdl https://open.spotify.com/track/xyz123

What about the All-in-One desktop Spotify song downloader app? These are specialized, third-party desktop applications designed specifically to get Spotify tracks, playlists, and podcasts to common audio files like MP3, FLAC, WAV, or AAC. These Spotify song downloader apps work by accessing the Spotify Web API to read your playlist data and, using their own proprietary decryption technology, record or convert the audio stream into a standard, unprotected file on your computer. They automate the entire process, handling download, conversion, metadata tagging, and cover art in one step.
Pros
- Extreme Convenience: The most user-friendly method. It automates downloading, tagging, and organizing with minimal effort.
- Batch Downloads: Can download entire playlists or albums (1000+ songs) with a single click.
- High Quality & Full Metadata: Preserves audio quality up to 320kbps MP3 or lossless. Automatically retrieves and embeds perfect ID3 tags and cover art.
If you're interested in third-party solutions, always make sure to:
- Download from reputable sources
- Check user reviews
- Use antivirus software to scan any downloads

When people talk about the Spotify song downloader. Using Audeecity to record songs from Spotify is technically possible. but it's important to be aware of legal and ethical considerations. Recording music from Spotify without permission may violate copyright laws and Spotify's terms of service.
If you choose to proceed, here’s how it generally works:
- Use a free, reputable audio recording software like Audeecity (free, open-source).
Set Audeecity to record your computer's "stereo mix" or "loopback" output (this varies by operating system). - Play the song on Spotify.
- Record it, then manually trim the start/end and export as MP3.
- You must manually add metadata (artist, title).
Final Strong Recommendation:
The safest, most ethical, and highest-quality path is to use Spotify Premium for its intended offline feature or purchase music legally from stores like iTunes, Amazon Music, or Bandcamp. This supports the artists and keeps your computer secure. - Use a free, reputable audio recording software like Audeecity (free, open-source).

Spotify Premium Offline Mode is an official, legal feature included with a Spotify Premium subscription. It allows you to download songs, albums, playlists, and podcasts directly within the Spotify app to your device's storage for listening when you don't have an internet connection.
Crucially, this is not a Spotify song downloader solution to obtain standard MP3 files. Instead, the downloaded content is encrypted and can only be decrypted and played within the Spotify app itself, ensuring it remains tied to your active Premium account.
How to Use It (Example on Mobile):
1. Find the playlist, album, or podcast you want.
2. Tap the Download toggle (a downward arrow icon).
3. Spotify will download the content. A green downward arrow icon will appear next to each downloaded item.
4. Go to Your Library > Playlists and tap the Download filter to view only your offline content.
5. Switch your app to Offline Mode in settings to hide all streaming-only content and save battery.
Spotify Premium is one of the best Spotify music downloaders for subscribers, not a tool for acquiring portable music files. It solves the problem of mobile data usage and listening in areas with poor connectivity (like planes or subways) while keeping you within Spotify's ecosystem.

For personal, legal offline use, here are your best free or low-cost options about the Spotify song downloader:
- Spotify's Own Offline Feature (Premium Required):
This is the intended method. With a Spotify Premium subscription, you can download songs, playlists, and podcasts within the Spotify app for offline listening. The files are encrypted and can only be played within Spotify. - Free & Legal Music Sources (You keep the files):
YouTube t0 MP3 converters: While legally gray for copyrighted content, it's a common practice for personal use. Use extreme caution as these sites are often filled with malware. If you proceed, use a strong ad-blocker (uBlock Origin) and a reputable service. SoundLoad is one of the more straightforward online tools, but still carries risk.
Free Music Archives: Sites like SoundCloud (many artists offer free downloads), Bandcamp (many "name your price" options at $0), and Free Music Archive offer tons of legal, downloadable music directly from artists. - MP3 Conversion Services (For Content You OWN):
If you have audio files in other formats (like from a CD you ripped), use a free, open-source, safe audio converter like A0dacity (for editing and conversion) or Freemeke Audio C0nverter.
If you are fully aware of the risks and terms of service violations, and are determined to proceed for strictly personal use of music you already have legal access to via Spotify, the landscape is fraught with risk. Most "free Spotify song downloaders" are unsafe. They are often fake, contain malware, or steal your Spotify credentials. The only category that somewhat works uses the "record the audio stream" method. These are Desktop Audio Recorders, not Spotify-specific tools. You would play a song on Spotify and use the recorder to capture your computer's sound output. This results in quality loss and is time-consuming.
- Spotify's Own Offline Feature (Premium Required):

Use a Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) to capture Spotify's audio output, a method often referred to as "audio routing" or "system-level recording."
This method works by rerouting your computer's digital audio output, the signal sent to your speakers into a recording program as an input. It captures the audio in real-time as Spotify plays, allowing you to record it to a standard audio file like WAV or MP3. It requires no internal access to Spotify and functions at the system sound level.
Step 1: Download and install both a Virtual Audio Cable app and a digital audio workstation or recorder (like OBS Studio or Adobe Audition). It will work as spotify music downloader software.
Step 2: In your computer's Sound Settings, set the Virtual Audio Cable as your system's default playback (output) device.
Step 3: Open the audio recording software. Set its recording input source to the same Virtual Audio Cable.
Step 4: In Spotify, play the song you wish to capture. In your recorder, start a new recording. The software will capture all audio sent through the cable.
Step 5: Stop the recording when the song ends. Manually edit out any silence, then export the final track as an MP3 or WAV file. You must manually add metadata (artist, title, album art).
Drawbacks:
Extremely Time-Consuming: Requires manual start/stop for each track and extensive post-production (splitting, tagging, adding artwork). This could be done in one click with a Spotify song downloader app.
Quality Can Degrade: Captures whatever quality Spotify streams, but depends on your cable and software settings; mistakes can lead to pops, skips, or reduced fidelity.

Download from a Streaming store is for those who want to truly own their music files. This method does not "download from Spotify." Instead, it involves replacing Spotify as your source for acquiring permanent music files. You use Spotify's vast catalog as a discovery tool instead of 3rd-party spotify song downloader app, then purchase and download the actual digital files from an online store that sells DRM-free music.
How it works
Use Spotify as you normally would to find new artists, build playlists, and decide which albums or songs you want to own permanently.
Use a service that legally sells DRM-free music, like Apple Music (via iTunes Store), Amazon Music Digital Store, or Qobuz. You can re-create your Spotify playlists there, purchase the songs individually, and download standard MP3 or AAC files that you own forever.
You own these files outright. You can store them locally, back them up to cloud services, sync them to any MP3 player or phone, and play them on any software that supports the format. You are not dependent on any subscription to access them.
Key Notes
This is 100% legal (no need for spotify music downloader)and supports artists directly, but it becomes expensive if you want a large library. It's best for acquiring your absolute favorite albums permanently.
