Laptops with HDDs that become very slow over time.

Hello.

I used Google translate to write this question.

For several years now, I have noticed that many laptop PCs, not necessarily very old (after only 2/3 years for some), were becoming very slow to the point of making them very difficult to use.

I have never found a "soft" solution to solve the problem, even an update or reinstallation of Windows without loss of data or programs.

The only solution that works, without doing anything more, is to clone the HDD to an SSD and the problem disappears immediately.

Certainly, an SSD is much faster than an HDD which runs at 5400 rpm, but it is the performance degradation with the HDD that surprises me.

Note that the HDDs did not present any warning signs of failure (see CrystalDiskInfo).

Have you also noticed this phenomenon?

Do you have an explanation ?

Thanks 🙂

Stephane.
