Just upgraded to windows 11 but not sure about upgrading my Office365 to MS365

My PC that I bought in 2021 has been giving me the little icon offering upgrade to win11. Fearing the worst, I finally upgraded it and much to my surprise it only took about 90 minutes start to finish and had no issues at all. So I was willing to buy the MS365 annual sub to upgrade my office 2019.

But I’ve got a billing issue preventing me from adding any payment info to my MS account. Something about moving from USA to Canada but the profile being locked to USA. Don’t wanna create a new MS account or play with country settings on my PC ( options offered by chat guy from MS) so I’m wrestling with just keeping office 2019. Doesn’t let me add either US or Canadian based credit cards. And we ordered a digital copy from Costco in Canada on my US card and it rejected so they’re being assholes about some licensing country based thing.

Only inconvenience I see is the inability to auto save to an outside cloud source (I save via syncs to Dropbox and don’t ever use one drive). Makes me do a file/save manually each time.

I’ve read more cons than pros regarding any need to give more money to MS if you’re fine with the way excel and word work on windows 11. Yeah I understand the “no more support” so can anyone tell me the actual relevance of not having your automatic updates include word and excel because you’re still using office19?

What’s stupid is how after my upgrade to 11, it opens excel and word files under MS365 and the fonts changed like it’s 365 but in fact it’s still actually the old version.

That’s probably because Windows 11 and Office 365 (or the way Office apps detect your system) are subtly changing how fonts and themes appear. Even if you’re still on Office 2019, Windows 11’s visual updates can make apps look a bit different—like a fresh coat of paint, but not a full upgrade. It’s usually cosmetic, but can be confusing.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/change-your-country-or-region-in-microsoft-store-5895e006-34f4-10f7-16b1-999e40adb048

From this article: "We recommend you change your region only if you're moving to a new country or region for a long time. This is important because items you get in one region might not work in another."

Of course, Microsoft Store is not the only place you can purchase Microsoft 365 subscription. You can even buy it in many retail stores (yes, subscription in a box :)). However, Costco in Canada was right about region problems. Read the article above.

Regarding Office 2019. Support for Office 2019 ends on October 14th. Soon. You don't care about technical support, ok, but you will not receive security updates!
Also, support for Microsoft 365 services connectivity (exchange, onedrive, sharepoint, ...) has already expired in 2023 for Office 2019. So, it'a good idea to upgrade.

Please, be aware about region and region change issues.

Great to hear your upgrade went smoothly! Many users have experienced surprisingly quick and trouble-free upgrades, which is encouraging.

Upgrade directly to a Microsoft 365 subscription for Win11 compatibility and the latest features.
