In Windows 11, when you open an app from the taskbar, the icon's position suddenly jumps.

When clicking on a pinned app icon on the taskbar, the icon sometimes flickers or shifts momentarily, causing users to accidentally click on adjacent icons and affecting both usability and visual consistency. Restarting File Explorer temporarily resolves the issue, but it recurs.

Corrupted icon cache files are a primary cause of taskbar display issues, including flickering and shifting . Rebuilding these files can provide a more permanent fix than simply restarting Explorer.

  • Hi, that taskbar jump sounds like Explorer briefly reordering or redrawing the pinned icon. I would restart Explorer, clear the icon cache, update the graphics driver, and test with taskbar animations disabled. If it started after a Windows update and happens on multiple machines, it is worth reporting in Feedback Hub with a short screen recording.
