Using an external hard drive to transfer 100 GB files on Windows 11 is straightforward. Here's a step-by-step guide:
How to transfer 100 GB files?
1. Connect the External Hard Drive:
- Plug your external hard drive into a USB port on your Windows 11 PC.
- Wait for Windows to recognize the drive and install any necessary drivers.
2. Prepare the External Hard Drive:
- Open File Explorer (Windows key + E).
- Locate your external hard drive under "This PC" or "Devices and drives."
- Ensure there is enough free space for 100 GB of files.
3. Transfer 100 GB Files:
- Open the folder containing the files you want to transfer.
- Select the 100 GB of files (click and drag, or use Ctrl + click to select multiple files).
- Right-click on the selected files and choose "Copy."
- Navigate to the external hard drive in File Explorer.
- Right-click inside the drive window and select "Paste."
4. Monitor the Transfer:
- A transfer window will appear showing progress.
- Depending on your USB port (USB 3.0 or 2.0) and drive speed, transfer time may vary.
5. Safely Eject the Drive:
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the drive safely.
- Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar and select your drive.
- Wait for the notification that it's safe to remove, then unplug the drive.
Additional Tips:
Use a USB 3.0 port for faster transfer speeds.
Ensure your external hard drive is formatted with NTFS or exFAT for compatibility.
For very large files, avoid interruptions to prevent data corruption.
