How to transfer 100 gb large files from Windows 10 to 11
When transferring a large 100GB file between two Windows computers on the same network, the fastest and most reliable method is to use a wired Ethernet connection combined with Windows file sharing. This approach is built-in, free, and transfers files at the network's maximum speed.
how to transfer 100 gb files
Step 1: Required Tools
Ethernet cable (recommended: Cat5e or Cat6)
Both computers must have a wired network port
Step 2: Begin Setup
- Connect the two computers
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the network port of the Windows 10 source computer, and the other end into the network port of the Windows 11 target computer.
Open “Control Panel” → “Network and Sharing Center” → “Change advanced sharing settings”;
Under “Private” network settings, check “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on file and printer sharing”;
Under “All networks” settings, check “Turn off password-protected sharing” (can be re-enabled after transfer).
Right-click the folder containing the 100GB file, select “Grant access” → “Specific users”;
From the dropdown menu, select “Everyone”, click ‘Add’, and set the permission level to “Read/Write”;
Click “Share” and note the displayed network path.
Open File Explorer, enter the above network path in the address bar and press Enter;
Once the shared folder is located, simply drag and drop the file into the local folder on the destination computer.
Congratulations in advance! Using a Gigabit Ethernet connection, you can achieve speeds of 90-115 MB/s. This means transferring 100GB of data will take approximately 15-20 minutes
