How to take screenshot on Windows 11 with advanced editing feature?

I'm currently in search of a powerful screenshot tool for Windows 11 that offers advanced editing features. I've tried a few basic tools like the Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch, but they don't quite meet my needs. I require something with more robust editing capabilities such as annotations, blurring sensitive information, adding shapes, text, and other advanced editing options.

I'm open to free and paid options if it significantly improves my productivity. I would also appreciate it if the tool supports various file formats and provides easy sharing options. Anyone has experience with a tool that fits this description or can suggest one that might work for my needs, please share your insights.

Thanks

  • Windows key + Print Screen is quick, but you can’t select areas, and it auto-saves everything—even the stuff you don’t want.  I’d recommend all-in-one tool: Sniptake — it’s much more flexible, lets you capture exactly what you need, and saves you from the extra hassle.

If you’re just starting out with screenshot tools to take screenshot on Windows 11, SharX can feel a bit overwhelming. The sheer number of features and options can leave you scratching your head. I remember the first time I opened it; I was like, “Where do I even start?” If you’re not tech-savvy or familiar with screenshot tools, it might take some time to get the hang of it.

The whole scrolling screenshot feature sounds amazing on paper, but in practice, it can be a pain—especially with complex web pages. I’ve had instances where it just didn’t capture everything properly, leaving me with half a screenshot or a jumbled mess. It can become so time-consuming trying to adjust it that I eventually gave up and just took multiple static screenshots instead.

Sometimes, I found it a bit laggy, especially if you're working with high-resolution images or scanning through really heavy web pages. It’s like trying to run a marathon while carrying a toddler on your back. You’ll just have to wait it out for it to load or process, which can be frustrating when you’re in a hurry.

Microsoft Edge includes a Web Capture feature that enables users to take screenshots of web pages, including full-page captures.

How to capture screen on Windows 11 using Edge browser:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the desired web page.
    2. Click on the three-dot menu (...) in the upper-right corner.
    3. Select Web Capture.
    4. Choose between capturing a selected area or the full page.
    5. Annotate and save the screenshot as needed.

This feature is particularly useful for capturing entire web pages without the need for additional software.

Greeshot is definitely the king of lightweight players. It is very easy to use and suitable for people who don't want to spend too much energy on studying complex tools. Especially when taking screenshots on Windows 11, the area and full screen are very smooth, and even scrolling page screenshots can be done (although sometimes you need a little patience).

Its editing function is also very practical. After taking a screenshot, you can directly mark, add arrows, draw frames, and even blur sensitive information. It is especially suitable for demonstrations or quick sharing. After taking a screenshot, you can also upload it to Imgur with one click, or save it directly to the local computer, which is very convenient.

    Disadvantages:

    1. Scrolling screenshots are occasionally not compatible with some complex pages, and sometimes you have to adjust them manually.
    2. The built-in functions are not as good as heavy tools. It is suitable for people who do not have complex screenshot needs but need to solve problems quickly.

In general, Greeshot is a simple and powerful tool. If you want to quickly get screenshots and don't want to toss complex software, choose it!

Haha, SharX is really good, especially if you need to take screenshots on Windows 11, it is perfect. I use it mainly because it has all the functions, is free, and has no ads, which is rare among tools.

It is very easy to take screenshots with it, and it can easily handle areas, full screen, and even scrolling pages. The editing functions are also very powerful, such as adding annotations, arrows, and blur information. It can also be uploaded directly to the cloud or generate sharing links, which saves a lot of trouble.

But it is not without shortcomings. For novices, the interface is a little complicated, and too many functions can easily make you confused. And its scrolling screenshots are sometimes not very compatible with complex web pages, and it takes a long time to adjust. Overall, the flaws do not outweigh the advantages, and it is especially suitable for people who need efficient screenshots and simple editing.

Grayson1345  Windows 11 comes with a lot of shortcuts so you can complete daily tasks very quickly and efficiently. As far as I know, Windows 11 provides at least four different short keys to let you take screenshot on Windows 11 PC or laptop.

How to take screenshot on Windows 11 with short key:

PrtScn (Print Screen): Pressing this key captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard. You can then paste the screenshot into an image editor or document.

Windows + PrtScn: Pressing these keys together captures the entire screen and automatically saves the screenshot to the "Screenshots" folder within the "Pictures" library.

Alt + PrtScn: Pressing these keys captures only the currently active window and copies it to the clipboard. This is useful when you want to capture a specific application window without the rest of the desktop.

Windows + Shift + S: Pressing these keys opens the Snipping Tool, allowing you to select a portion of the screen to capture. After making your selection, the screenshot is copied to the clipboard, and you can paste it into an image editor or document.

Note: The editing feature is not as good as third-party Windows 11 screenshot tools!

Grayson1345   While the Snipping Tool is a convenient and built-in option to take screenshot on Windows 11, it does have some limitations that might not suit all users. For example, its editing capabilities are relatively basic. It only offers a few essential tools such as freehand drawing, highlighting, and cropping.

If you need more advanced editing features like adding text, shapes, or annotations, you might find the Snipping Tool insufficient for your needs. Additionally, the user interface is as efficient for those who require quick access to more diverse screenshot modes or advanced options like delayed capture and scrolling screenshots.

Taking screenshot in Windows 11 laptop can sometimes contain malware or viruses, especially if you download attachments from unknown sources. Be cautious when downloading files or clicking on links from unsolicited emails or messages.

Grayson1345Windows Logo+Shift+S is the Windows 11 screenshot shortcut.  This will launch the built-in snipping tool so you can take copped or full screenshot on any Windows 11 laptop or PC. You don't need to install other app for taking screenshot on Windows 11.

Do you try the default Snip Tool that comes with Windows 11? You can take screenshot on Windows 11 with short key (Alt + PrtScn) but the editing feature is not that good.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I do know Alt + PrtScn or Windows Logo + Shift + S are two popular ways to take screenshot on Windows 11 with shortcut keys. However, like I said in my post, the stock Snipping tool lacks advanced editing feature, such as text, filter or blur. In addition, the file size of saved screenshot are too big, almost 1MB.
