How to permanently delete text messages from iphone
When you delete a message on an iPhone, it doesn’t disappear instantly. Instead, it first moves to the “Recently Deleted” section inside the Messages app, where it usually stays for 30 days. During this period, you can restore it anytime if you change your mind.
After that retention period or if you manually erase it from “Recently Deleted”, the message becomes inaccessible through normal iPhone functions. It no longer appears in the Messages app, and the system treats it as removed. For most users, it looks permanently deleted at this stage. This is why you need a more safe solution to permanently delete text messages from iPhone.
However, the data might still exist temporarily in system storage until overwritten. Because of this, recovery tools or backups (iCloud/iTunes) may still bring some messages back if they were deleted recently. Once the storage blocks are overwritten, though, the message is truly gone and cannot be recovered.
