How to Increase C Drive Space in Windows 11 without Formatting
- Sep 19, 2024
I totally get it, I made the same mistake myself once! I used a free tool called Dr.Partition to easily drag and resize my partitions without losing any data on my D drive. It was way easier than I expected and saved me from a full Windows reinstall.

How to increase your C drive space on windows 11 without formatting? First up, let's check out the Disk Management tool. This is where the magic happens! Just right-click on the Start button (or hit WIN + X) and select Disk Management.
Step 1: Shrink Another Drive
Now, if you've got another drive (like 😧 or E:), you can shrink it to free up space. Right-click on the drive you want to shrink and select Shrink Volume. You'll get a prompt where you can enter how much space you want to take away. Once you do that, hit the Shrink button.
Step 2: Expand the C Drive
After you've shrunk another drive, you'll see some unallocated space next to your C: drive. Right-click on your C: drive and hit Extend Volume. Follow the wizard and choose the amount of space you want to add. Easy peasy!
Step 3: Cleanup
Oh, and while you're at it, it might be a good idea to clear up some space on your C: drive anyway. You can do this with Disk Cleanup:
- Search for Disk Cleanup in the Start menu.
- Select your C: drive and let it analyze space.
- Check the boxes for the files you want to delete (like temporary files or system files) and hit OK.
