Start with the recording itself: keep the mic fairly close, lower the input gain so peaks stay around -12 to -6 dB, and record away from walls or other reflective surfaces. Soft furnishings, curtains, blankets, or even a closet full of clothes can help reduce room reflections cheaply. For clipping, prevention is much better than repair. If a take is already clipped, tools such as a de-clipper can help, but they usually can’t fully restore lost detail.
