How to convert m4v to mp4 on windows 11
I need to convert some M4V files to MP4 on Windows 11 but haven't found a simple solution yet. The built in Windows Media Play does not support .m4v as input file. The online m4v to mp4 converter either reduce the video quality or have complicated settings.
Can anyone recommend a reliable method to easily and safely convert m4v to mp4 on a Windows PC?Ideally, I'd like a free and easy-to-use program, but I'm open to paid options if they work well.

Don't use online M4V to MP4 converter as it is not safe and time consuming! Desktop app is much faster and supports large videos as well as batch convert. I highly recommend giving it on Any2VID, one of my favorite apps:

You’re thinking about using HandBrake to convert M4V to MP4 on Windows 11, right? It’s a pretty solid tool overall. If your M4V files are from iTunes or other protected sources, HandBrake just won’t cut it. You’ll hit a wall because it can’t bypass DRM, so your conversion will fail or result in an unusable file. That’s super frustrating if you’re trying to convert purchased or rented movies. HandBrake is mainly focused on MP4 and MKV; if you need other formats, you’re out of luck. Also, it’s not the best for customizing advanced encoding settings unless you’re a tech nerd.
If you want to convert M4V to MP4 on Windows 11 computer.Depending on your video size and your PC’s specs, converting large files can take a while. If you’re in a hurry, it might feel like waiting forever, especially if you’re doing batch conversions. While HandBrake generally maintains good quality, messing around with settings without understanding them can result in degraded video or larger files than needed. Sometimes, it takes a bit of trial and error to get the perfect balance. It’s pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it, but I’ve found that some options are buried deep, and the default presets aren’t always perfect for every scenario. You might need to tweak settings to get the best results.

You should not wast time on Windows Media Player (WMP) for converting m4v to mp4 on Windows 11.
Limited Format Support: WMP struggles with many modern video and audio formats like MKV, AVI (with certain codecs), FLAC, and even M4V. You often need to install separate codecs or use a different player just to play your files.
No Format Conversion: As you've discovered, WMP can't convert files from one format to another (e.g., M4V to MP4). This basic functionality is expected in most media apps today.
Poor User Interface: The interface feels clunky and outdated compared to sleek, modern media players. Navigation is not intuitive, and features are buried in menus.
However, you can use this free m4v to mp4 converter instead:
1. Download and install VL1C Media Player if you don’t already have it.
2. Open VL1C. Go to Media > Convert / Save...
3. Click Add, then select your M4V file and click Open.
4. Click Convert / Save. In the Profile dropdown, select Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4).
5. Click the Browse button next to "Destination file" to choose where to save the MP4 and give it a name.
6. Click Start to begin the conversion.

How about the HandBrake if you are going to convert M4V to MP4 on Windows computer? Its advantages are that it is very popular, reliable and supports batch processing. Maintain high quality.
How to convert M4V to MP4 on Windows 11:
- Download from HandBrake
- Install and open it.
- Drag your M4V file into HandBrake.
- Under Summary, set the format to MP4.
- Choose your preset (e.g., "Fast 1080p30").
- Click Start Encode.
HandBrake sometimes automatically converts M4V to MP4, but if your M4V has DRM copy protection, it won’t work. Usually, M4V files from iTunes are protected, so this method works best for unprotected files.
If your M4V files are from iTunes or other DRM-protected sources, these free tools won’t be able to convert them unless you remove DRM first (which can be legally tricky). For DRM-free files, these methods work great.
