How to Convert AVIF to PNG in Bulk on Windows 11?

Anyone knows about AVIF image format? I recently received several AVIF images from a colleague, and when I tried to open them using the default Photos app, it didn't work. I even tried a few third-party image viewers, but none of them seemed to support AVIF.

I guess I need to convert Avif to PNG in bulk so that I can view and edit them without any issues. I’ve heard that some online tools and software can handle AVIF to PNG conversion, but I'm concerned about the potential loss of quality and the security risks associated with uploading files to random websites. Additionally, I’d prefer a solution that allows me to bulk convert multiple files at once, as I have quite a few images to process.

Using the Paint app. This method requires no extra software to convert avif to png if you have the latest version of Windows 11, as native AVIF support was added.

    1. Locate your AVIF file in File Explorer.
    2. Right-click on the file.
    3. Hover over "Open with" and select Paint.
(Alternatively, you can open the Paint app first and then go to File > Open to browse for your AVIF file).
    4. Once the image is open in Paint, click on the File menu in the top-left corner.
    5. Select Save as.
    6. From the list of formats, choose PNG image (*.png).
    7. Choose your desired save location and filename, then click Save.

Microsoft Paint is a simple, built-in graphics editor in Windows that allows users to view, edit, and convert image files. While it doesn’t natively support AVIF in older Windows versions, Windows 10 (v1903 and later) and Windows 11 can open AVIF files in Paint if the necessary codecs are installed.

How to convert avif to png for Windows pc

    1. Right-click the AVIF file.

    2. Select Open with → Paint.

    3. Click File (top-left corner).

    4. Select Save As → PNG picture. Choose a location and click Save.

Done! Your AVIF file is now converted to PNG.

Another good AVIF to PNG Converter is Paint.NET, a free and user-friendly image editing software that supports a wide range of plugins, including those for AVIF file support. This allows users to easily open AVIF files and convert them to PNG without needing to navigate complex software.

Furthermore, Paint.NET offers a variety of image editing features that can be utilized during the conversion process. Users can take advantage of its powerful editing tools to enhance their images before converting them to PNG, such as adjusting brightness and contrast, applying filters, and performing touch-ups.

In command-line tools to convert avif to png bulk, even a small typo can throw everything off. I can't tell you how many times I've had to redo a command just because I accidentally left out a space or mistyped a parameter. It can be a real drag to keep correcting little mistakes, especially when you're trying to run batch processes.
