How To Change User Name Windows 11
To change the username in Windows 11, follow these steps:
Click on the Start button and select the Settings icon (gear icon) from the left-hand side menu.
In the Settings menu, select "Accounts."
From the "Accounts" menu, select "Your info" from the left-hand side menu.
Click on the "Manage my Microsoft Account" link. This will open your Microsoft account page in your web browser.
Sign in to your Microsoft account if prompted.
Click on the "More actions" button (three dots) located at the top right corner of the page.
Select "Edit Profile" from the drop-down menu.
On the "Edit profile" page, click on the "Edit name" button.
Enter your desired new username in the "First name" and "Last name" fields.
Click the "Save" button to confirm your new username.
Wait for a few minutes, and the new username will automatically sync with your Windows 11 device.
That's it! Your Windows 11 username has now been changed.

1) there is no "change account name or username" under User accounts on Control Panel, just an option to "change account type."
2) In settings there is no "manage my microsoft account" option, just a related settings link titled manage my accounts which opens up the Microsoft browser login.
3) therefore, there is no More actions, 3 dots, anything else after that because all you have done is sign into your microsoft account online.
- shawadeelCopper ContributorHello There,
I have changed my name on Microsoft Account, but in windows it still shows Old name, whereas in MS Office it shows the correct name on the same PC.
Kindly help.
Thanks - Adeel Shah - AmbrosenbBrass ContributorChanging your username does not affect your user profile's folder name within the C:\Users\ directory. If you need to change the profile folder name, it's a more complex process that involves additional steps, such as creating a new account and transferring your files.
- nathamayil07Copper ContributorIt doesn't change the name in the C Drive nor the terminal, any other way those could be changed as well?
- NguyenaisIron ContributorThanks. It is really helpful!

"While it's possible to change the account name in more than one way, there's not an option that will rename your profile folder inside the "Users" folder. If you also want to change the name of your profile folder, it's best to create an entirely new account and transfer the information to the newly created profile."
This is from the excellent article linked to by Harold Thomas, above.
Free translation: you cannot rename a user account on Windows 11.

I just wanted the local user name changed, not some mental syncing madness.
Control Panel > User Accounts > Change your/the account name.
Just wasted most of my lunch break with this.
Android authority's first result did it in 30 seconds. Why ?

Seems like you CANNOT change your normal Local username for the windows file structure.. as in your USERNAME for your USERS folder within the LOCAL directory if you are the only account on the machine ... AND/OR on your microsoft account as your sign in?
There is zero way to change my username and therefore the FILE NAME within USERS via control panel, the settings sections, OR the microsoft account page on the web.. why thats not baked in as an option during PC setup or a thing you can change for your microsoft account is DUMB - DyllanL84Copper ContributorI am actually so relieved yet frustrated with how simple this process actually was but that it took me almost 2 hours to find it. Thank you, lol!
