How do I snip and capture a screenshot on my mac?
The following is a common question for Mac users who switched from Windows.
How do I capture a screenshot on my Mac?
Method 1: Capture the whole screen (Shift + Command + 3)
Instantly captures your entire screen as a file saved to your desktop (or wherever you've set screenshots to save).
Method 2: Capture a selected area (Shift + Command + 4)
Your cursor turns into a crosshair — click and drag to select the area you want, then release to capture just that region.
Method 3: Capture a specific window (Shift + Command + 4, then Space)
After pressing Shift+Command+4, tap the Spacebar. Your cursor turns into a camera icon — hover over any open window and click to capture just that window with a clean drop-shadow border.
Method 4: Open the Screenshot toolbar (Shift + Command + 5)
Opens a small toolbar at the bottom of the screen letting you choose to capture the full screen, a window, or a selection — plus record your screen as a video. This is the most flexible option if you want a preview before saving.
