How can I split a PDF into separate one-page files on Windows?
I have a 30-page PDF and need to save each page as an individual PDF so I can send different pages to different people.
I know there are free online PDF splitting tools. But the PDF contains sensitive information, so I would prefer not to upload it to a website.
Is there a free Windows tool that can split a PDF into separate one-page files completely offline?

To split a PDF into separate files on Windows, with one page in each file, choose a fixed split interval of 1 page. PDFgear can do this for free, and Acrobat Pro has an equivalent setting. Windows also offers a manual printing method, but it saves only one output file at a time.
You do not need to convert the pages into pictures first. A dedicated splitter separates the PDF’s existing pages, preserving their visual layout without deliberately reducing image resolution.
Built-in method: save pages individually with Microsoft Print to PDF
If the document contains only a few pages, you can use Microsoft Edge with Windows’ virtual PDF printer. This requires no extra installation, though each page needs a separate print-and-save operation.
- Right-click the PDF and select Open with > Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + P and select Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Choose the custom page option and enter just 1.
- Click Print and save the result as Page-01.pdf.
- Repeat for page 2, page 3, and the remaining pages, using different filenames.
A range such as 1-5 creates a single five-page document. It does not generate five files. Printing can also flatten form fields and lose navigation features, so automatic splitting is preferable for longer or interactive PDFs.

PDFgear online: split a PDF into individual pages for free
PDFgear’s online splitter lets you split a PDF online for free and specify how many pages each output file should contain. It requires no login, and processes the PDF locally in your browser without transferring the file to a server.
- Visit PDFgear’s Split PDF webpage.
- Click Select PDF File and choose the document.
- Select the fixed page-interval option and enter 1.
- Click Split into X PDFs.
- Click Download File to save the separated PDFs.
To split a PDF by number of pages, set the interval to the number of pages you want in each output file. Use 1 for individual pages or 2 for two-page files; the last file may contain fewer pages if the total is not evenly divisible.
Adobe Acrobat online: place dividers between page thumbnails
Acrobat’s online Split PDF tool offers a visual alternative for short documents. It requires an Adobe sign-in and processes the uploaded file through Adobe’s service. One operation allows up to 19 dividers, producing a maximum of 20 files.
- Open Acrobat’s online splitter and select your PDF.
- Sign in when prompted.
- Add a divider between every pair of pages.
- Click Continue, choose a destination folder, and select Save.
- Download the resulting PDFs.
That output limit makes Acrobat online less suitable for separating every page of a document longer than 20 pages. For larger files or regular offline use, consider a desktop splitter.

PDFgear Desktop: split a PDF into single-page files offline
PDFgear’s desktop app lets you split a PDF without Adobe, processing the entire document in one operation. It works offline and is useful when you need to split a large PDF into smaller files while keeping the document on your computer.
- Download and open PDFgear.
- On the main screen, select Hot Tools > Split PDF.
- Click Add Files and select one or more PDFs.
- Choose Fixed range from the dropdown menu and set the interval to 1 page.
- Choose an output folder and click Split.
This creates one PDF per page without repeatedly entering page numbers and saving individual files, making the process easier for documents with dozens or hundreds of pages.
Adobe Acrobat Pro: configure the output location and naming
For existing Acrobat Pro subscribers, the desktop Split tool provides a straightforward alternative with output folder and filename options. This is a paid feature; the free Acrobat Reader does not include it.
- Open the document in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Select All tools > Organize pages > Split.
- Set the split criterion to Number of pages and enter 1.
- Use Output Options to choose the folder and naming settings.
- Click Split.
Before using the results, compare the output count with the original page count and open a few files to confirm that each contains exactly one page. Keep the source PDF, especially if it includes bookmarks, forms, or digital signatures that may not carry over intact.
