Temperatures near 90°C during light use warrant investigation even if Windows has not shut the system down. The first step is to determine whether the heat is caused by unexpected workload or inadequate cooling. In Task Manager, sort Processes by CPU and GPU usage and note what remains active for several minutes. Switch temporarily to the Recommended or Balanced power mode, remove any overclock or undervolt, and install BIOS, chipset, graphics, and thermal-control updates from the device manufacturer. Run the manufacturer’s hardware diagnostics and verify that fans or a liquid-cooling pump are detected and changing speed. On a desktop, inspect dust buildup, fan direction, cooler mounting, and thermal-paste contact; on a laptop, keep vents unobstructed. Windows exposes power modes, but fan curves are generally device-specific. If temperatures remain near 90°C at low utilization, stop stress testing and have the cooling assembly serviced.
