When you forget iPhone passcode, Apple's system treats this as a security event. The passcode is stored in the Secure Enclave chip locally on your device—Apple cannot access it or bypass it, even if you prove ownership . The only official way back into your device is to erase it.
If your iPhone is running iOS 15.2 or newer, Apple added a built-in way to reset your device directly from the lock screen when you've forgotten your passcode.
How it works if forgot iPhone passcode:
- After entering the wrong passcode several times, look for an "Erase iPhone" option in the bottom corner of the screen
- Tap it and enter your Apple ID password to confirm
- Your iPhone will reset to factory settings, removing the passcode
Requirements:
- iPhone must be running iOS 15.2 or later
- Must have an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular)
- You must know your Apple ID password
