Could it be possible to update to Windows 11 from Windows 7?

I have an old Lenovo laptop T440 and want to know if there is a way to help me update to Windows 11 from Windows7?

  • Not possible as Microsoft closed the upgrade path of Windows 11/10 from Windows 7 in 2023.

    Hello.

You can actually get yourself a windows 11 with only diskpart, dism, cmd and a WIM image of windows 11, but this will be tough.

    Hello Nguyenais.

As far as I know, you can upgrade directly from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but not from Windows 7 to Windows 11: a clean installation should be required, provided that your PC can fully support Windows 11.

    Bye.

  • Greetings Nguyenais,

As looked and investigated into your query, here’s what Windows 11 officially requires:

    1) 64-bit processor with 1GHz+ and 2+ cores

    2) 4GB RAM

    3) 64GB storage

    4) UEFI firmware with Secure Boot

    5) TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module)

    But the T440 has:

    1) Intel Core i5/i7 (4th Gen) — good

    2) 4GB–8GB RAM — good

    3) SSD/HDD — usually okay

    4) TPM 1.2 only — not officially supported by Windows 11

    5) May not have Secure Boot enabled

Result: Your T440 does not officially support Windows 11, but it can run it with a workaround.

    So kindly consider that :

    1) Windows 11 will run, but may not get feature updates or may show “unsupported hardware” messages.

    2) You can still receive security updates, especially if you stay on Windows 11 23H2.

    3) Performance may not be optimal depending on RAM and disk speed — consider upgrading to an SSD if you haven’t already.

Hence, I can recommend for your Lenovo T440:

    1) Upgrade to Windows 10 first (it’s free if you use the Windows 7 key)

    2) Then decide if you want to stay on Windows 10 (supported till Oct 2025) or clean install Windows 11 using Rufus.

Let me know if you'd like the exact step-by-step instructions with download links — I can guide you through it.

    Kind Regards,

    Manik :)
