Can I download music from Spotify to my computer (Windows 11)?
I’m going on a long trip next week and would like to save a few Spotify playlists on my Windows 11 laptop so I can listen without Wi-Fi. I have Spotify Premium, but the desktop app’s download option seems to keep the music inside Spotify.
Is there a way to directly download songs from Spotify to computer as regular audio files, such as MP3s? I’d mainly use them offline on my laptop and copy a few tracks to a USB drive for my car.
I’m not very technical, so I’d prefer something straightforward and safe. What method do you use?

Ok. Using spot_downloader to download songs from Spotify to computer is technically possible. Tools like spot_downloader work in a multi-phase process:
- Fetch Metadata: You give it a Spotify playlist, album, or liked songs URL. It queries the Spotify API to get the list of tracks, artists, album art, and lyrics.
- Source from YouTube: It then searches YouTube (or YouTube Music) for each track and downloads the best matching audio.
- Tag and Convert: Finally, it embeds the Spotify metadata (cover art, track info, lyrics) into the audio file, typically as an M4A or MP3.
So, when you use spot_downloader to download songs from Spotify to computer, you're getting YouTube-sourced audio with Spotify's metadata attached.
