Big issue with Windows 11 destroying all USB external Hard disk and internal hard drives

Windows 11

Version 24H2

OS Build 26100.6725

Windows feature experience pack 1000.26100.253.0.

Big issue with Windows 24H2 Last upgrade destroying all USB external Hard disk and internal hard drives. no matter what type the hard drives are or how old either brand new ones are not escaping damage.

If you try and recreate using disk part, format NTFS, Fat 32 or exfat to repartitions the drive and or do a error checking it renders the hard drives useless.

  • Hello,

    A few questions:

    1. Can you provide technical details and screenshots to fully understand what is happening?
    2. Are you able to take those storage devices to a different computer and use then? Or does it need formatting? And if you do format them, will they work on the original computer?

     Thank you.

I have put this issue on X and no one has responded to my issue from Microsoft since August 28th 2025

Hi for the last few days after a windows update my computer Windows 11 is not seeing my extenal hard drives.

I have so far changed the usb cables and used different ports front and back.

Tried a number of other hard drives that i have.

Windows does not see any of them.Windows device manager does not see them.

I have checked device manager and the computer only recognises my internal hard drive. Is this a problem with the update or a faulty device driver.

I have know idea which update caused this issue.

I cannot check the drives on another machine as I only posses one computer.

I have purchased a seagate expansion sw drive. which works in any usb port
