Blender is the renowned free, open-source 3D creation suite. However, its integrated Video Sequencer editor is a fully-featured non-linear editor that can be repurposed as a powerful MOV to MP4 converter.

How it works:

  1. Open the MOV to MP4 converter and switch from the default 3D View to the "Video Editing" workspace.
  2. Add your MOV file to the sequencer.
  3. Go to Render > Render Output, set the output format to FF.mpeg video, and choose MP4/H.264 as the container/codec.
  4. Click "Render Animation." It will re-encode the file with high-quality settings.

 

Using a 3D animation suite to convert a video file is like using a Formula 1 car to go to the grocery store—immensely powerful but not the intended purpose. The settings are complex, but it offers unparalleled control for free.

Process:

Open Blender and switch to the "Video Editing" workspace.

Import your MOV file into the sequencer.

Adjust the timeline if needed.

Go to the "Output Properties" tab, set the format to MP4.

Set the encoding to H.264 for the video codec.

Choose your output filename and location.

Click "Render" > "Render Animation" to export as MP4.
