Any free video to transcript converter without sign up for Windows?
For a private, no-upload first pass, play the interview in Media Player and turn on Windows 11 Live Captions with Win+Ctrl+L. Download the English language pack when prompted, select microphone audio only if you actually need it, and let the video play at normal speed. The recognition runs on the PC after the language files are installed, which is useful for checking a sensitive interview, but Live Captions is designed for on-screen access and does not produce a saved Word transcript.
When you need an editable export, Microsoft Clipchamp can import the video and generate automatic captions from the Captions panel. Review names and interview terminology against the timeline, then download the subtitle file and open the SRT in Word or Notepad for cleanup. Clipchamp may require a Microsoft account, and automatic-caption processing should be checked against the privacy requirements for the interview.
Another Microsoft 365 route is Word for the web > Dictate > Transcribe after extracting or supplying a supported recording. It gives speaker-aware text and direct insertion into Word, but account eligibility and transcription limits apply. Keep the original video unchanged and proofread the final transcript; clear English audio still commonly produces errors in names, dates, and punctuation.
