All of a sudden icons disappeared from redirected shortcuts on our Windows 11 clients
Got a weird one for you. Our staff all have redirected Desktops with shortcuts on them and basically no start menus other than the bare necessities. It's worked great for us for almost twenty years...
Hi, test one shortcut whose icon points to a local Windows DLL and another whose icon points to a UNC/network path. If local icons work but remote icons do not, a recent Windows 11 security change or zone policy is probably blocking remote icon loading. Also rebuild the icon cache for one test user and check AppLocker/WDAC and endpoint-security logs. Compare the shortcut's IconLocation value on Windows 10 and 11, plus the user's permissions to the target file. If every redirected shortcut fails only after a specific update, capture the KB and a minimal reproduction before changing the folder-redirection policy.
