AirPods 2nd gen bluetooth sound quality - ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd gen

They worked fine on windows 10 so I know it's not an issue with my device, the connection quality is not consistent and the sound quality keeps cutting in and out (very short but it's still annoying regardless) and I can't listen to music properly unless I want a crappy connection. Have googled this issue but all the results are only for the pros which will be useless to me
