A file disappeared from my Windows folder without appearing in the Recycle Bin—what happened?
A file vanished directly from its Windows folder location and did not show up in the Recycle Bin, suggesting it was permanently deleted by bypassing the bin or removed by a system process. This could result from using Shift+Delete, a cleanup utility, antivirus quarantine, a failing drive causing data loss, or a bug in a program like OneDrive, but recovery will require third-party software or checking backups immediately.

Open OneDrive via the system tray icon or web interface and check its Recycle Bin. Sometimes files are "moved" by sync bugs.

Use a tool like Everything (voidtools) to search by filename – sometimes Windows Explorer simply fails to display a file correctly.
