Windows 10 Is Microsoft too afraid to break legacy support?

Windows 10 prioritizes backward compatibility over quality-of-life improvements, leading to annoyances like limited Settings app and locked open files. Should Microsoft start fresh even if it breaks old software?

  • Hi WilliamsMoore, I think Microsoft keeps that compatibility because many businesses still depend on older apps, drivers, and workflows. The tradeoff is real though: some old behaviors slow down cleanup and modernization. A clean break can help quality, but it also needs a long migration path so admins are not left rebuilding everything at once.
