Windows 10 Bluetooth cannot simultaneously use the microphone and stereo audio.

On the Windows 10 system, when using Bluetooth headphones such as Sony WH-1000XM5 or AirPods, it is not possible to simultaneously enable the microphone while maintaining high-quality stereo audio mode. The same headphones function properly on macOS, but no solution has been found yet on Windows. I want to confirm whether this is an inherent technical limitation of the Windows system or if there are specific overlooked settings that can resolve this issue.

  • Windows often switches automatically between A2DP and HFP/HSP depending on whether you're using the microphone.

Windows cannot typically use both profiles simultaneously with the same Bluetooth device. When connected in A2DP mode for high-quality audio, the microphone functionality is usually disabled because the device switches to HFP/HSP mode, which sacrifices audio quality for microphone support.

Windows tends to default to the A2DP profile for stereo sound, but when you try to use the microphone, it switches to the HFP/HSP profile, causing a drop in audio quality. This switch is often automatic and not easily configurable, which is why many users see this limitation.
