Win10 Jump Lists in taskbar sometimes do not show recently opened files when clicking the app icon
The jump list opens, but recent-file history disappears after several hours. Open Settings > Personalization > Start and confirm Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer is enabled. Toggle it off, restart Windows Explorer from Task Manager, then enable it and open several test files. Unpin the affected taskbar shortcut and pin the application again from the Start menu so it uses the correct application identity. For Office, confirm its own Recent list is enabled and the files are not on an unavailable network or removable location. Test one application at a time; if only one fails, repair that application rather than clearing all Windows history. If every application loses history, test a new account to distinguish profile corruption from a system issue. Avoid deleting AutomaticDestinations files because that resets pinned and recent jump-list data. Record whether a restart, sign-out, or cleanup task precedes each recurrence.
