Win 10 ESU - Entitlement LOST
Months ago I enrolled my 2 Windows 10 Pro and 1 Windows 10 Home devices in ESU. Enrollment was successful and all 3 devices received updates thru Feb 2026. All 3 devices previously appeared in account.microsoft.com/devices.
After rebooting for the Feb updates, within a few days I started getting warnings that Windows is not activated. When I checked, the online account, 2 devices are showing support "has ended" and the 3rd device is missing completely. So all 3 devices have lost their ESU entitlement.
WORSE-- without active ESU entitlement, the OEM product keys will not re-activate Windows because my installs are considered EOL.
I've discussed this with Copilot regularly for the past 3 weeks, which continues say the missing device should automatically reappear in account.microsoft.com/devices and all 3 should automatically reactivate for ESU. I asked Copilot for a link to public statements or forum post discussing this issue and the reply was:
There is no public proof.
There is no official statement.
There is no published incident report.
So I'm stuck with 3 computers that are no longer activated, no longer enrolled in ESU. Has anyone seen this before, and what is the fix?

I chatted directly with MS Tech Support and explained the problem. The rep told me that I need to just downgrade to Windows 8, which is what my PC shipped with direct from HP. Doesn't matter that I took the free upgrade from Win 8 to Win 10 when Microsoft offered it, he said there is no way to activate Win 10 and I need to just go back to Win 8... a totally end-of-life operation system with no ESU available. At least with my non-activated Win 10, I have ESU until Oct 2026. I wish I was kidding, but that's exactly what the MS support rep told me. I'm stunned.

Without active ESU entitlement, OEM product keys won't re-activate Windows, especially since the systems are considered EOL.

Devices are often identified by hardware IDs or device certificates. Major updates or changes to hardware or system state can sometimes cause devices to appear as new or unrecognized, especially if the enrollment process hinges on persistent device IDs.

When you enroll devices in ESU, they are registered and linked to your Azure AD or Microsoft account. If a device's registration or enrollment status changes (e.g., due to OS updates, reinstallation, or account issues), it can lead to devices disappearing from the device list or losing their support status.

Your devices likely lost their enrollment or registration visibility due to backend or license issues. The best course of action is to work directly with Microsoft Support to verify your licenses, restore enrollment, and reactivate your devices properly.
