Why does Windows Update always happen when I’m in a hurry?
Whenever I am in a hurry or trying to use my computer quickly, Windows Update always starts automatically and consumes a lot of system resources. This causes my device to slow down or become unresponsive, making it difficult to complete urgent tasks, and it feels like Windows Update has a mind of its own, interrupting my workflow at the worst possible moments.

Windows Update doesn't fire randomly. It follows a scheduling logic: the system looks for "idle time" to download and install updates, and when you haven't been actively using the computer for a while, or the system judges you're in an "inactive state," that gets treated as a suitable update window.
which can consume significant CPU, memory, and disk resources. This is by design, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating when you're trying to get something done.
You can extend this pause later, but you'll eventually need to install the latest updates before you can pause again.
