Why does Windows 10 take so long to install cumulative updates?

I am experiencing very slow installation times for cumulative updates on my Windows 10 PC, which sometimes take several hours to complete. I want to understand what causes these delays and if there are any effective ways to speed up the update process to ensure my system stays current without lengthy wait times.

The download phase can be slow due to your own internet connection or heavy traffic on Microsoft's update servers, especially on "Patch Tuesday" when millions of users are downloading simultaneously.

  • Hi Samkkinlon, cumulative updates can be slow because Windows has to compare and replace many system components, especially on older disks or systems with a large component store. I would make sure there is plenty of free space, run Disk Cleanup for Windows Update files, then use `DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth` and `sfc /scannow` if updates keep dragging.
