Why does my printer work on my phone but not Windows?

Phones usually print through AirPrint, Mopria or the printer manufacturer’s app. Windows uses its own printer queue, driver and network port, so successful phone printing does not confirm that the Windows setup is correct.

Try adding the printer by its IP address:

1. Find the printer’s IP address from its control panel, configuration page, router or mobile app.
2. Enter that IP address in a web browser on the Windows PC. If the printer’s page opens, the computer can reach it over the network.
3. Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and remove the existing printer entry.
4. Select Add a printer or scanner. If it is not found, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed.
5. Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, enter the printer’s IP address and complete the setup.
6. Install the Windows 10 driver for the exact printer model from the manufacturer rather than relying on an incorrect generic driver.
7. Open Printer properties > Ports and confirm that the queue uses the correct Standard TCP/IP Port, not an old IP address or unreliable WSD port.
8. Print a Windows test page.

If the printer’s web page does not open in step 2, temporarily disconnect any VPN and check that Windows is using a Private network profile. Also make sure the computer is not on a guest network with device isolation.

If jobs remain stuck, press Win + R, enter services.msc, and restart Print Spooler. Reserving the printer’s IP address in the router can also prevent the Windows port from breaking when the address changes.
