Where to download Windows 10 installation assistant to let me upgrade from Windows 7
My company has several old Windows 7 desktop PCs and need an upgrade to Windows 10 as many of the modern apps does not work well on the old Windows version. I was told to create a bootable Windows 10 bootable USB to complete this work. Is this correct? What is the right place to download Windows 10 install assistant so I can boot the computer from USB and upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10? I can't find the download link from Windows 10 product page.

Downloading and using the Windows 10 Installation Assistant to upgrade from Windows 7 can pose several potential dangers or risks if not done carefully:
- If you download the installer from unofficial or suspicious websites, you risk malware, viruses, or trojans being bundled with the file. Malicious sites may attempt to steal your personal information through fake download pages.
- Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 may cause driver incompatibilities, especially for older hardware, leading to hardware malfunctions or system instability. Some legacy applications may not work properly on Windows 10.
- Although the upgrade process is designed to preserve your files, there’s always a risk of data loss due to errors or interruptions during installation. Not backing up important data beforehand can lead to permanent data loss if something goes wrong.
- Using the Windows 10 Install assistant might encounter issues activating Windows 10, especially if your Windows 7 license isn’t eligible for a free upgrade or if the upgrade process doesn’t complete properly.
- Interruptions (power loss, internet disconnection) during the upgrade can leave your system in an unstable or unusable state, requiring troubleshooting or clean reinstall.
- Windows 10 includes telemetry and data collection features. If privacy is a concern, you may want to review and adjust privacy settings after the upgrade.

To upgrade your Windows 7 PCs to Windows 10, you have a couple of options:
1. Using the Windows 10 Install Assistant
- The Windows 10 Install Assistant is primarily designed for upgrading a single PC from within Windows. It does not create a bootable USB installer.
- You can download the Windows 10 Installation Assistant directly from the official Microsoft website.Note: As of recent updates, Microsoft has shifted toward using the Media Creation Tool for creating bootable installation media.
2. Creating Bootable Windows 10 USB Installer
Since you want to upgrade multiple old PCs, the recommended approach is to create a bootable USB with Windows 10 installation media. This allows you to perform a clean install or upgrade from boot.Steps to create a bootable USB:
- Download the Media Creation Tool linked above.
- Run the tool on a working Windows PC.
- Choose Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC.
- Select USB flash drive (8 GB or larger).
- Follow the prompts to create the bootable Windows 10 installer.
- Insert the USB into the old Windows 7 PC.
- Boot from the USB (you may need to change the boot order in BIOS/UEFI).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade or perform a clean install.
For upgrading directly from Windows 7 via software, use the Media Creation Tool to create bootable USB. The Windows 10 Install Assistant is mainly for upgrading from within Windows, not for creating bootable media.

If you're unable to download the Windows 10 Installation Assistant, several factors could be causing the issue. Here are the most common reasons and solutions:
1. Microsoft Server Issues
The download page (Microsoft's official site) may be temporarily unavailable. Fix:
Try again later or use the Media Creation Tool as an alternative.
2. Browser or Download Blocking
Your browser (or an extension) might be blocking the download. Fix:
Try a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox).
Disable ad-blockers/extensions temporarily.
Right-click the download link and select "Save link as."
3. Internet Connection Problems
Slow or unstable internet can interrupt the download. Fix:
Restart your router.
Use a wired connection if possible.
Try downloading from a different network.
4. Region Restrictions
Some Microsoft services may be limited in certain regions. Fix:
Use a VPN to change your location (e.g., set to the US).
Check if Microsoft’s site is accessible in your country.
Final Troubleshooting Step
If nothing works, try downloading Windows 10 installation assistant from a different device and transferring the file via USB.
