Normal PDF converters are pretty much useless for scanned documents since they treat pages as flat images. To get around this, I've been using OCR.Z.AI. It uses GLM-OCR in the browser to read the images, making it a solid free pdf to word converter with OCR for dealing with unreadable scanned pages
Using a free pdf to word converter with OCR:
- Upload your scanned PDF or image.
- Let GLM-OCR process the text on each page.
- Double-check the extracted text for typos.
- Copy or export the content into Word.
Key details:
- ENGINE — Uses GLM-OCR for text recognition.
- FORMATS — Supports PDF, PNG, JPG, and JPEG.
- LIMITATION — Extracts structured text (like Markdown tables), but won't retain the original PDF's custom fonts and visual layout.
It's a massive time-saver for getting the raw text out. Just treat it as a first step—always double-check the layout before calling it done.
