What is the best data recovery software for macos?
10 years old Windows user and switched to Mac recently.
I recently lost some important files due to accidental deletion (they're not in the Trash anymore), and I don't have a Time Machine backup. I came across a lot of data recovery software options, but not sure which one actually works best on macOS, especially for recovering permanently deleted files or files from my mac internal drive.
What is the best data recovery for mac osx? Has anyone here had success with any specific tool? I need something that's safe, easy to use, and ideally not too expensive. Free options are welcome too if they're reliable.

About the best tool for data recovery mac? PhotoRac is a powerful, free, open-source data recovery tool that can help you recover lost files from your Mac’s storage device, especially if the files were deleted, the drive was formatted, or data was lost due to corruption. It works by scanning the drive at a low level, ignoring the filesystem, and recovering files based on their signatures.
Step-by-Step guide for data recovery Mac:
1. Download the version compatible with macOS.
2. Launch the photorac application (it might be inside the extracted folder).
3. When you open PhotoRac, you may need to give permission in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Full Disk Access.
4. Run PhotoRac with administrator privileges if prompted.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the drive you want to recover data from (e.g., your internal SSD or external drive). Press Enter.
6. Usually, PhotoRac detects the partition table automatically. Confirm or select the correct partition type (e.g., Intel, EFI, etc.).
7. Choose the partition where your lost data was stored.
8. For most Mac drives, choose ext2/ext3 or HFS+ (Mac OS Extended). If unsure, try the default options.
9. Select a folder on a different drive than the one you're recovering from (important to avoid overwriting data).
10. Confirm and let PhotoRac scan the drive. The process can take some time depending on the size of the drive.
11. Recovered files will be saved in the folder you specified.
12. Files may be renamed with generic names, but their content should be intact. - CoconutkinIron Contributor
If you don't have a Time Machine backup and need to recover data from your Mac, you can try using free data recovery software on Mac.
1. Stop Using the Drive Immediately
To maximize chances of data recovery Mac, avoid writing new data to the drive.
Do not install recovery tools on the drive you're trying to recover from.2.Use Terminal for Deleted Files
If files were recently deleted, check if they are still in the .Trash folder:
Open Terminal.Type: ls -la ~/.Trash
If your files are there, you can restore them with:
mv ~/.Trash/filename /path/to/destination/Replace filename with your actual file name.
